Education showing ‘relentless lack of regard’ – campaigners
CAMPAIGNERS against the two-school model have described latest plans to plot a future direction for education as showing a ‘relentless lack of regard’.
Education, Sport & Culture has published a policy letter, which aims to establish a framework for the review it has been instructed to carry out.
The most high profile recommendation is that the review should be limited to just four models.
ESC also wants the States to agree on is terms of reference, and it wants to hold on to the concept of a single school on a number of campuses.
But a spokesman for the group People Power Guernsey, which organised the protest march through Town, said that ESC was not listening.
‘People Power Guernsey have been forced to issue a further press release having watched the actions of the current ESC committee over the past week who are now, more than ever, demonstrating their relentless lack of regard for the key stakeholders and the public.
‘It seems very clear that the current ESC has no appetite to pause and review and instead are ploughing on with their one school, two site model with a blatant lack of respect.’
The group has added its voice to calls for ESC to resign.
‘Other States members have expressed their desire to get on with the job that the requete directed them to do and if the current ESC cannot see past their own preferred model then we believe a change in committee is needed.
‘The clearest outcome from the recent debate is that all members agreed more consultation should take place with the teachers, unions and other key stakeholders. The current ESC committee are not doing this, furthermore we fail to see how this committee can now do this going forward when there is no trust.
‘The public wish for a committee to engage in a proper pause and review.’
