The site is one of many to have been closed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

National Trust vice-president Sara-Jane Lampitt said they had been keen for people to be able to see the displays.

This year there is a display of 1950s costumes on the first floor and 1940s outfits on the ground floor, as well as some features about the wartime Biberach deportees.

‘The staff and volunteers have spent the best part of the whole winter putting on the displays,’ Ms Lampitt said. ‘And some of these displays will only be seen once, because they are so fragile.’

While the project is still in the planning phase, it is hoped that soon the National Trust website will have a virtual tour of the museum, which means people can have a look around.

The local National Trust has closed most of its buildings, but the trust is also rich in land which is open to the public.

Chris Archer of Archer Imagery has been tasked with recording these sites, using photography and drones.

Ms Lampitt said with social distancing, it was important for islanders to enjoy outdoor space and the trust was keen for islanders to know what was available.

National Trust members will shortly be receiving their spring newsletter, although there have been a number of changes due to the current crisis.

One thing that will be included the trust’s first paper map of its sites to give people a better idea of what is available.

Details of the virtual tours will be released soon.
