An enhanced Sunday service will operate on weekdays, with a normal Sunday service operating at weekends.

The decision reflects the significant reduction in bus passenger journeys across the network over the last few weeks as the public reacts to the latest public health guidance discouraging all but essential journeys during the current outbreak of Covid-19.

Typically the service carries more than 5,000 passengers on a weekday in March. However numbers were dropping throughout March, with 1,641 using the service the day before the lockdown.

The first day of the lockdown saw just 727 passengers. On Wednesday 1 April, 533 passengers used the service.

'It is appreciated that this change in service provision might cause inconvenience for some passengers, but every effort has been made to ensure that an adequate number of services are provided at commuter times,' a States of Guernsey spokesperson said.

The provision of bus services will continue to be reviewed over the coming days and weeks.

Traffic and Highway Services thanked CT Plus, its drivers and the general public for their support and understanding at this time.

Essential workers impacted by the changes can call CT Plus on 700456 for further advice about how to complete their journey.

Cash fares are not currently being accepted on scheduled bus services, but contactless payment facilities are available on all buses. For those that do not have access to contactless, pay as you go orange puffin passes are available for £5.
