Pebble stacks line island’s coastal walls

Pebble towers now line some of the coastal walls around the island, left by islanders on their two-hour exercise outings.

High tides and strong winds often lift some stones over coastal walls onto pavements and lots of islanders have been doing their bit in picking them up, making art as they do so.

The pebble piles emerged on the wall at Albecq several weeks ago and now more are appearing all over the island; at Pleinmont, Grand Havre, Vazon and many more. Although many are plain, there are some pebble stacks around the island painted in rainbow colours.

Some are rather impressive, with as many as 15 stones balanced on top of one another.

Love Pebbles Guernsey is a small local business that paints fun decorative designs on small stones found on Guernsey beaches.

Some rainbow pebble stacks have been planted around the island in places such as Saints Bay and Les Amarreurs.

They are often left with a note asking islanders not to touch the stack but to take a photo and share it to the Love Pebbles Guernsey Facebook page.

On 25 April, the owner of the business set up a stall where she was selling the beautifully painted pebbles, raising money for Animal Aid.

They often have inspiring notes on them such as ‘We’ve got this’ and ‘Guernsey Together’ and a total of £750 was raised for the charity.
