The pub landlord will aim to visit 10 pubs on his route, starting at his own at 3.30pm, all in his daily two-hour exercise allowance for Guernsey Mind’s Man Club initiative.

He said although he had not undertaken any training for the challenge, it would be fun and would raise money for a worthy cause.

‘I’m doing this to raise the profile of Man Club and Guernsey Mind during this difficult time,’ he said.

‘Guys need an outlet as well and Man Club supports men.’

The service is usually available on Monday evenings every four weeks at Vale Rec clubhouse for men to come together to support one another without judgement, and in confidentiality.

The meetings are run by qualified mental health first aiders who facilitate the space by serving those who attend.

Mr Skipper has already raised more than his £250 target via a Just Giving page and hopes to further raise both its profile and money for the online service it is currently providing due to lockdown, as well as for when it can resume at the clubhouse.

Man Club founder Philip Surry said the funds raised would be hugely valued and would make a difference in helping them to continue and support their ongoing work.

‘Richard is taking on a great challenge to raise money and awareness for Man Club, especially during these times,’ he said.

‘We are now running Man Club online every week, and the chaps always welcome new guys in the same way that we always have done – with no judgment, confidentiality and total support.

‘This cycle will hopefully put it out there to guys that, despite the lockdown, you can still reach out, and support is available now more than ever.

‘We can all play a part and do that for one another, that’s the Man Club way.

‘Anyone supporting Richard on this endeavour has our full gratitude and thanks.’

Starting at his own pub at 3.30pm, Mr Skipper will visit The Dorset Arms, The Captains Hotel, Happy Landings, The Longfrie Inn, The Pony Inn, La Couture Inn, Foresters Arms, The Albion House Tavern, Mojito’s, before finishing back up at The Plough.
