The positions at St Sampson’s High School and Les Beaucamps High School could be extended into a second year and the timescales involved reflect that the education system is currently ‘on hold’ and each of the four existing secondary schools still needs its own leadership.

Both positions are due to start this September, and the salary for the St Sampson’s job is up to £92,440, and at Les Beaucamps it is up to £85,843.

A job summary says that along with being operationally responsible for the sites, the post also includes work on planning for a future overhaul.

‘The interim principal will provide support for the further development of Guernsey’s secondary schools.

‘During the review of secondary education models currently under way, the post-holder will lead, support and prepare stakeholders in “change readiness” preparing for whatever outcome is decided by the review.’

Education in the island is going through a turbulent period and at this stage it is unclear how the coronavirus pandemic will affect the transformation.

A long list of duties and responsibilities is set out by the States, top of which is supporting the review of models by providing professional input to the consultation, leading on staff and ‘stakeholder’ engagement, and being an active member of the transformation team.

Key knowledge and experience required includes a track record in successful education management, and the ability to translate a vision into an improvement plan with ambitious and challenging goals, and also implement it.
