In April 2019, more than 67,000 journeys were made through Guernsey Airport, in what later proved to be a bumper year for air travel.

But since late March this year only critical, compassionate and medical travel has been taking place, in a bid to control the spread of Covid-19.

Most people returning to the island have had to self-isolate for 14 days, although travellers going to the UK have not faced the same restriction.

The changes meant that just 647 passenger movements were made last month.

Gatwick is normally Guernsey’s busiest route, but Aurigny suspended services to the London airport on 6 April.

In that first week 60 passengers used the route.

Instead the States-owned airline has focused its service on Southampton. Many islanders getting medical care travel to Southampton General Hospital. There were 454 passenger movements on this route.

Flights are still operating to Alderney and 133 passenger movements were recorded on the route.

There was also one international passenger and one UK traveller, who travelled through Guernsey Airport, but no details of their direction of travel or location were provided in the data.

There is currently one return flight to Southampton on weekdays but no UK services at the weekend. There are two daily weekday services to Alderney.

There are no passenger services at the weekends, although the mail is still being flown in on Saturdays.
