BY CYCLING pub-to-pub for charity, one local landlord has raised more than triple his fundraising target.

The Plough Inn’s Richard Skipper spent two and a half hours of last Friday afternoon, the May Day bank holiday, cycling furiously from pub to pub in his challenge to raise money for Guernsey Mind’s Man Club initiative.

With an initial aim of reaching 10 pubs in his two-hour exercise allowance, the previous day’s updated Public Health guidance to allow for four hours' exercise enabled Mr Skipper to manage nine in two and a half hours, raising £620 more than his £250 Just Giving page target.

He said although tiring, it had been a great challenge and he had even received some support from the pubs along the way.

‘Well, made it in two and a half hours after getting sidetracked by a wonderful welcome at The Dorset Arms, The Captain’s Hotel, Longfrie and Foresters,’ he said.

‘Didn’t quite make it to La Couture Inn as my legs advised against the extra mile.’

Beginning at his own pub and kitted out in his specially made pub-to-pub Guernsey Mind T-shirt, Mr Skipper visited The Dorset Arms, The Captain’s Hotel, Happy Landings, The Longfrie Inn, The Pony Inn, Foresters Arms, The Albion House Tavern and Mojito’s, before finishing back up at The Plough Inn.

He was very appreciative of the donations.

‘Target of £250 wonderfully surpassed, with folk donating £870 to Man Club courtesy of Guernsey Mind,’ he said.

The Man Club service,

which is usually available on Monday evenings every four weeks at Vale Rec clubhouse for men to come together to support one another without judgement, and in confidence, is currently being held online every week.

Money raised goes towards this service.
