Guernsey Electricity installed six hedge-veg seed stalls, so that wildflowers could be planted to support pollinators.

It proved popular after all stalls ran out of seeds by Sunday lunchtime.

PR & communications lead Alice Gill said: ‘We are delighted that the stalls have been so popular. It’s lovely to think that all across the island we are going to have a network of pollen rich blooms.’

More seeds are due to arrive in Guernsey next week, which were delayed due to Covid-19 restrictions.

These can be collected from the Pollinator Project.

‘Wildflowers attract all kinds of pollinators like bees, butterflies and ladybirds to our gardens, which in turn helps boost our vegetable harvests, keep common pests like aphids under control and they look great,’ she said.

‘We have big aspirations for our small island. By planting these seeds, we are all coming together as a community to improve our island’s biodiversity.’

Some seed collection sites were installed at employees’ homes.

Project engineering lead Dave Smart said: ‘Our stall was so busy on Saturday. It was lovely to see families out walking and on their bikes in the sunshine collecting the seeds. The island is going to look great when they all bloom.’
