Beau Sejour asks users to be patient as it reopens
BEAU SEJOUR had a very different set-up as it welcomed members and customers back yesterday.
Classes now take place in the Dave Ferguson Hall, where stations can be set up two metres apart to comply with social distancing.
The swimming pool is divided into three sections for lane swimming only at different paces and every piece of gym equipment has been moved so that there is adequate space between people working out.
‘We’ve had to make some pretty significant changes and we ask that people are patient with us while we continue to work it all out and are respectful of other people wanting to use the centre,’ head of recreation services Sam Herridge said.
‘We’re making the most of the space we have got and have restricted numbers by making every activity bookable to ensure we can comply with the guidelines.’
Fewer classes and sessions are on offer to allow time for rigorous cleaning of equipment between uses.
Swimmers are asked to arrive ‘beach-ready’ with their bathers on under their clothes so they can get changed pool side before moving to the wet changing area to get dry and dressed. All dry changing areas are closed, as are lockers, so customers are being asked to keep their limited belongings with them.
Since closing the centre before lockdown, staff had been redeployed to assist in other areas such as hospital portering, delivering PPE and working on the helplines.
Now, they have refreshed their training, have learnt specifically how to deal with first aid demands with Covid-19 in mind and are itching to get back.
There is a welcome desk at the entrance where members and customers will be asked to sanitise and will have the new layout and guidelines explained to them.
Ms Herridge explained that in the gym, only two people are allowed in the weights zone at any one time and the same rule applies in the core zone.
‘We ask that people are mindful of others and recognise that everyone is in the same boat wanting to use the various pieces of equipment.
‘Let’s keep that Guernsey Together spirit,’ she said.
‘Now is not the time to be selfish.’
