However, it is now believed that this was a BB gun.

An incident was reported at 5.05pm, which resulted in a large area being cordoned off in Victoria Avenue from the coast down to Bukit Estate and across from the former MFA Bowl building to the Pitronnerie Road Industrial Estate pathway.

Sergeant Russell Johnson confirmed at the scene that officers had been called out to look for three people.

‘Officers were deployed from Pitronnerie Road Industrial Estate and have been conducting an extensive search of the area for three individuals,’ he said.

‘We have slowly been able to drop the cordon as the search continued.’

Last night a Bailiwick Law Enforcement spokesman released more details.

‘Earlier this evening firearms officers were deployed to Victoria Avenue, after a member of the public called police to report a group of males and, what they believed to have been a weapon,’ he said.

‘Officers closed the road and conducted a thorough search. Following the discovery of BB pellets in the area reported to us, officers were stood down.’

Many residents in the area were asked to wait outside their homes while the search was ongoing.

‘I’ve just done a 12-hour shift and been here for over an hour and a half,’ said Jackie Gallienne, a resident who lives near the former MFA Bowl building.

‘I tried getting through the other end from Les Banques but couldn’t, so I’ve just been waiting. It’s OK, it’s something exciting that’s happened during lockdown. Now I just want to go home and have something to eat.’
