What started as a lockdown hobby has become a labour of love for baker Edmund Morgan.

Donating all proceeds from one weekend resulted in £228 raised for the international human rights movement.

‘I started baking during lockdown. After a few successful attempts of baking standard bread I discovered sour-dough,’ said Mr Morgan.

‘I fell in love with the process and I think it taught me some patience.’

‘For the BLM fundraiser most of the loaves were plain. But I have a few repeat customers who like seeded or wholemeal loaves, so I bake those especially for them.’

There was no fundraising target in mind.

‘I had no clue how much I was going to raise. I ended up baking 44 loaves in total, which is pretty much my capacity at the moment. I recommended £3 as the donation but had some very generous donations, some up to £20.’

Each loaf sold for £5.18 on average.

‘Thanks to all of your unbelievable kindness you have helped raise £228 for BLM. I’ve been blown away by the generous donations. Thanks so much for supporting such an important cause.

‘I decided to support BLM because I was searching for a way in which I could help raise awareness and money for the cause in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

‘We’re all so lucky to live in such a lovely, safe environment on the island and I think we take this for granted sometimes.

‘I suppose doing this was a way of realising that fact, and using what I have to spread the word that it’s simply not acceptable for people to be racist or for anyone, including police, to behave like they have.’

People seem to enjoy the bread, which makes Mr Morgan happy.
