TASERS, guns, car chases and an exploding bomb all feature in what Guernsey Police has depicted as a ‘usual’ week for the local force.

Home Affairs president Deputy Mary Lowe has defended a Guernsey Police recruitment video after it was criticised online.

It has launched a new recruitment campaign with the release of a video on its social media platforms.

The video features armed police raiding an office, officers sparking up Tasers, and a stinger being deployed as part of a chase around the reservoir.

At the beginning, two people are having a conversation, asking what their week was like. The man says: ‘You know, the usual – photocopying, emailing, paperwork.’

When he asks the woman in the video, she says: ‘You know, the usual too,’ and the video cuts to an explosion – which is where the exciting clips of life on the Police force begin.

Some islanders left comments on the video, questioning how appropriate it was in the current climate and whether it is a fair reflection of their work.

But it has been backed by Home Affairs president Deputy Mary Lowe who said on Twitter: ‘This excellent video demonstrates just a fraction of the opportunities within the force giving a varied and exciting career.’
