Overall, 73.2% of students across the Bailiwick’s state schools achieved at least five 9-4/A*-C grades including English and maths – up by 9.3% from the previous year.

On behalf of Education, Sport & Culture, its president Matt Fallaize congratulated all students for their efforts.

‘It also goes without saying this year has been unusual, so I can only commend the resilience of the students in the Bailiwick for working through such a difficult time,’ he said.

The Grammar School was the only school to record a 100% pass rate of students achieving five grades of 9-4/A*-C including English and maths, with more than 13% of students achieving a grade 9/A* and over 50% achieving grade 9-7/A*-A.

Les Beaucamps High School saw the second highest pass rate of the state schools in the island at 62.9% at 9-4/A*-C, including maths and English, up 10.4% on last year.

Pass rates for grades 9-4/A*-C including maths and English at La Mare de Carteret High School was 41.8%, at St Sampson’s High 52.1%, at Les Voies 33.3% – up from 8.3% a year previously – and at St Anne’s School in Alderney it was 66.7%.

Le Murier Year 11 students had an excellent year with accreditations and qualifications being gained in functional skills, ASDAN, City & Guilds and BTec from Entry Level to Level 2.

At the colleges the students achieved impressive results, with Elizabeth College, Ladies’ College and Blanchelande College seeing results of 99.5%, 99.4% and 96% graded at 9-4/A*-C , respectively.

While students did not sit the exam papers, an assessment – a centre assessed grade – of all of the work they have done across their studies was made by their schools to help determine final grades.

This follows announcements earlier in the week by the UK government that students’ grades will be the higher of their centre assessed grade and the grade calculated for them by the exam regulator Ofqual, after it has been put through their statistical model.

In spite of this, more than half of the Guernsey College of Further Education’s 200-plus students were affected by more results chaos after exam board Pearson pulled its BTec results on the eve of releasing them on Wednesday as it wanted to regrade its assessments in line with changes made to other qualifications. However, those part-time, full-time, and apprenticeship students, including adults who were not affected received top grades.

There was 100% pass rate for maths students with 65% achieving grades 9-4/A*-C, as well as a 100% pass rate and 100% achievement of grades 9-4/A*-C for English students.

The college’s principal Louise Misselke hailed the excellent results and said she was proud of the students.

‘For those affected by the BTec results, we’re doing everything we can – they may have to wait a little longer for their results but we’ve provided provisional results and hopefully they’ll be able to get these confirmed soon.’

Finalised grades for these courses will be released in due course and the exam board has provided the assurance that final results may only go up, not down.
