Today at Saumarez Park, a huge celebration of the island’s success during the Covid-19 pandemic will take place with live music, games, entertainment and more.

The Lions Club of Guernsey always holds an event one weekend in August at the park, however this year’s will be different to the norm.

It is usually the weekend of the Donkey Derby, but because of the pandemic, it was not possible to bring over the stars of the show – the donkeys.

Instead, the Lions Club got together with the North Show committee and came up with an idea to hold an event for the whole community to celebrate Guernsey ridding the island of the coronavirus.

There is a JT stage with live music from local talent from midday until 10pm, followed by a firework display sponsored by Oak Group.

Live music includes, City Limits, GU10, High Voltage, Beautiful Nightmares, Buffalo Huddleston, Element 6, Underdog, Rough Tones and more.

There is also a small Battle of Flowers event with bicycles and wheel barrows in a nod to the cancelled North Show event, as well as a beer tent, plus dozens of charity and small business stalls.

The event kicks off at 11am and wraps up with last orders at the bar and the firework display at 10pm.

Additional bus services and night buses are being put on to take people back to Town or around the island after the event.

This year’s Vintage Agricultural Show will be held at Les Paysans in St Peter’s, taking place today and tomorrow.

Dubbed ‘a step back in time to the 1950s’, there will be tractor displays, military vehicles, sheep racing, stalls, horse classes, a beer tent, meat draw, animal tent as well as a rabbit and cavy show.

Plus, evening entertainment from the likes of local bands Clameur de Haro and The Silverados.

Tomorrow, all things motorsport will be celebrated at Seafront Sunday.

It includes a live action arena on the North Beach car park. The St Peter Port seafront will also be closed from the Town Church to the Weighbridge roundabout, with a range of local stallholders showcasing their products.
