Islanders motor into Town for a spin
MOTOR enthusiasts descended on Town yesterday to have a chance to go for a spin in their ‘dream’ car, watch the FRG Twisty Sprint, and mosey around vehicles from the 1970s to present day.
Stalls showcased products, services, charities and cuisine as crowds swarmed all around.
In its seventh year, this time with Forest Road Garage as the main sponsor, the Guernsey Motor Festival Seafront Sunday was a huge success.
GMF organising committee member Marc Maubec said: ‘We have about 70 cars on Albert Pier for Dream Drives, an extra thing this year, and are nearing 300 vehicles in all.
‘We’ve had so much support it’s great, there are nine garages here with loads to see and do. It’s been a really nice day, and the first time we’ve had North Beach, the Seafront, Crown and Albert Pier.’
Individuals ran against the clock around the Twisty Sprint track at North Beach.
Tom Le Cheminant said: ‘Chris Law is the record holder of the day so far.
‘I’m part of his pit-crew, and he built his quad-bike yesterday from scratch. It has 44 horsepower with an RD350 motor.’
Mr Law said: ‘By 1.30pm I’d built the bare frame, and got it running last night.
‘I’ve been doing this since a young age, and have raced in the UK before.’
Jade Ferbrache was the only female riding bikes at the Sprint, with one other driving cars.
‘It’s nice to be back riding bikes, we missed out on a lot of track days. I’ve got a little 39cc mini-moto, and a Honda CBR600. I prefer the moto, which I started on when I was seven, but it hurts the hips.’
Dream Drives were on offer for a £20 donation to Cancer Research UK’s Guernsey branch.
Kody Domaille, 8 said: ‘I’m big on cars, I have been my whole life.’
His twin brother Carson said: ‘I want to go in the yellow Lamborghini.’
Mum, Kenieta Domaille said: ‘I think I’m more of a petrol-head than their dad. The fact they’re doing this for CRUK is really good, a cause close to everybody’s hearts.’
