More than 100 candidates for Guernsey's 2020 election

THE NUMBER of candidates in a Guernsey election has topped a century for the first time in years, with 119 names now on the final list in the race to be a deputy.

Today was the last day for candidates to register, and a further 32 added their names to the ballot paper.

The majority of the field are newcomers and independents, although more than three quarters of the current crop of deputies are standing again.

In total there are 29 sitting deputies, nine former deputies, and 81 newcomers.

The Alliance Party Guernsey finally made its mark with 11 candidates, The Guernsey Party has nine, and The Guernsey Partnership of Independents has 21.

The number of women candidates is less then a third the number of men, with 28 women and 91 men.
