The island’s Policy and Finance committee has considered a first draft of an integrated transport strategy with the intention it becomes a blueprint for air and sea connectivity and features as part of the wider Bailiwick’s Revive & Thrive initiative.

The ultimate goal of the strategy is buy-in by several of Guernsey’s committees, in particular Policy & Resources, Economic Development and the States’ Trading Supervisory Board, as well as States-owned and supported transport operators.

Although still in its early stages, P&F chairman James Dent said it would map out a range of actions that might be achieved by working closely with Guernsey.

‘An enormous amount of work has already been put into the initial draft,’ he said.

‘Much work still remains – it will be absolutely vital that we work closely with Guernsey for the common purpose – this needs to be a document that can be accepted by all.’

As part of the strategy, P&F has, in addition, stated its commitment to liaising with Guernsey authorities to take advantage of any technical and or green advances in transport, specifically in aviation and shipping.

The committee believes it will be important to explore how improved services might be matched with overall budgets.

With this in mind, P&F has expressed its support for a meeting proposed and organised by Green Air, a promoter of electric aviation, to bring together Guernsey’s P&R committee, Green Air and Aurigny, plus representatives from the States of Alderney.

It is hoped that representatives from the States of Jersey would also be available.

Following an opportunity for further comment by States of Alderney members, it is intended that a revised draft will be available in time for the October P&F meeting.

If approved, there would be a wider consultation with stakeholders and islanders.
