It fielded 11 candidates, with its best showing Tony Cunningham with 3,393 votes, well short of the 6,475 needed to get in.

Eight of its candidates feature in the bottom 14 with 1,897 votes or fewer.

This all came after a confident prediction on election night from party leader Barry Weir that they would all get in.

An Alliance Party Guernsey spokesperson said: ‘Obviously we are disappointed that none of our candidates were elected but we are pleased that every one of our candidates received a significant number of votes.

‘It is still our honestly held belief that if Guernsey really wants decisive, political leadership that gets things done in a transparent way that it will ultimately require strong political parties. We appreciate that party politics was a new concept for islanders and that many people weren’t ready for this change but believe that, like all modern, developed democracies, it will become necessary as voters seek certainty and demand accountability.

‘We would like to congratulate all off those who were successfully elected as deputies and wish them well for the next term. Guernsey is a wonderful place to live and work and we fully support anything these deputies can do enhance this, especially in the difficult and challenging times that we all currently face.

‘We will not make any knee-jerk reactions as to what will happen with the Party until we have had proper time to reflect.’
