The incident happened at about 4.15pm on La Route du Picquerel yesterday with the single car involved coming from the west.

There were two people in the grey Ford Galaxy people carrier, the driver and the passenger as well as a dog.

A police officer at the scene said it was not clear how the incident had happened and would need to wait to conduct further interviews with those in the car.

The homeowner whose wall was partially destroyed after building it himself over 18 years ago, was also the person who called the ambulance.

‘I heard a bang when it happened,’ he said.

‘Coming out to see this, it was unexpected and I quickly phoned for an ambulance to help.

‘It’s just one of those things what happened to the wall. It’s a shame but I wanted to make sure the people inside the car were all right.

‘The wall can always be rebuilt.’

All three emergency services attended and the area was made safe jointly by fire and police services, with the road closed to traffic.

Both driver and passenger were taken to hospital, with no apparent serious injuries.

As the dog could not go in the ambulance, it was taken by police officers who comforted it until it could be reunited with its owners.
