Could this spell the end of rum and raisin ice cream?

DECLINING milk sales due to consumers switching to plant-based alternatives has led Guernsey Dairy to consider changing its range.

Options are open for new packaging sizes or tailoring products to different tastes.

With the lowest sales, rum and raisin ice cream may fall victim to the changes.

‘It’s sad to see rum and raisin go, it’s my favourite – it’s the best,’ said Sarah Haughey.

Ollie Nightingale’s favourite is honeycomb. ‘I eat a lot of ice cream. Ben and Jerry’s-style tubs would probably go down well.’

Jemima Judge, 9, said: ‘I eat lots of ice cream and love it. We do actually get the Guernsey one.

‘Chocolate is my favourite. If they made a cherry one I’d love that.’

Consumers who have switched to plant-based alternatives are unlikely to revert back to dairy.

Lupin Vivian said: ‘I’m vegan so I wouldn’t have any dairy ice cream.

‘I have been for five years now, and am pretty set in my beliefs. Cows are treated really well here compared to other places, but it’s still essentially the same problems as elsewhere.’

Cameron Tyson said Guernsey ice cream is not available in enough shops. (28832407)

Cameron Tyson said Guernsey ice cream isn’t available in enough shops.

‘I would be more inclined to buy it if I saw it around more.

‘Usually I get ice cream from off-licences or garages in the dead of night.’

Guernsey ice cream has the stamp of approval from a former Cornwall resident.

Frankie Allen said: ‘I like ice cream, I’ve had the Guernsey one and it’s good.

‘I’m from Cornwall where they do really good ice cream, so that’s saying something. I haven’t tried the rum and raisin one but I would like to.’
