Aurigny is aware that flights are selling out in the next couple of days prior to the UK lockdown on 5 November and that the urgency to get to a destination prior to Christmas is the key driver to this.

Commercial director Malcolm Coupar said: 'Given the uncertainty in the UK at this time we have seen a number of flights prior to Thursday fill up.

'We have also had many concerned parents call our customer services team asking about flights to get their children home from university.'

He said the company wanted to help customers as much as possible, so have upgraded flights on Wednesday to the jet service to add extra capacity.

Aurigny are continuing to monitor demand prior to Thursday and may add more space or put on further flights if demand continues.

While the ATR can carry 72 passengers, the jet has a capacity to carry 122.
