The outlet in the Markets will be extended, refurbished and modernised to become the main post office in Town from spring.

It will offer all the traditional counter services, as well as a parcel collection counter and a self-service postal kiosk.

A post office counter will open at the Co-op’s Royal Terrace store, which will be a hub for business services.

This will provide a range of business services, including PO boxes.

The Royal Terrace site has been chosen because it is located conveniently for many businesses.

‘Having made the decision to move away from Smith Street and to improve the existing Markets post office, which already offers easy access to our services, we believed it was also important to provide convenient access to our services for businesses based at the northern end of Town,’ said Guernsey Post chief executive Boley Smillie.

The Royal Terrace store met all of Guernsey Post’s requirements.

Mr Smillie added: ‘We are really pleased to be partnering with the Co-op on this initiative.

‘The Co-op has proven experience in running post offices located within its stores and we believe the partnership will only deliver benefit for our customers.’

Iain Beresford, chief marketing and membership officer of the Co-op, said it had a long standing relationship wiuth Guernsey Post and was pleased to continue this with the re-modelling and expansion of the Market Street and Royal Terrace premises.

‘We are looking forward to continuing to offer all of our members an enhanced offer through our store network, and look forward to welcoming existing customers of Smith Street to both of our locations where they will receive a warm welcome.’
