Northerners AC firework display goes off with a bang
HUNDREDS of people gathered at Northerners AC last night to enjoy one of the only two public firework displays on bonfire night.
Over 100 firework displays were registered on gov.gg set to take place last night, with Northerners AC and the 2nd Guernsey Scouts opening their gates to the general public.
Half of the Northerners football pitch was full of islanders wrapped up with hats and scarves, making shapes with sparklers and waiting with anticipation for the streaming whistle of the fireworks.
Enjoying her first ever bonfire party was three-year-old Arya McKane.
‘I like the sparklers most because they make everybody happy,’ she said.
Club president Colin Kimber said the first firework party was held back in 2003.
‘It’s something we love doing every year for the community to give something back for their support.’
Although it makes a little bit of money for the club, the main idea is that everyone comes together, eats some burgers and enjoys the show.
This was the first year four-year-old Eva Shaw had gone to the Northerners AC event.
She was having fun making circles with her sparklers and said she was particularly excited to see the fireworks this year and had been looking forward to it for weeks.
