He has now chosen to give it to the charity.

A bag of coins was given in at a CIAS collection point at Batif in Town on Thursday.

In the bag of old coins was also a Second World War Medal.

Concerned that the man had not intended to donate it, Guernsey Post publicised what had happened, in the hope someone would come forward.

A Guernsey Post spokesperson confirmed that the donor had now been in touch with them and had not realised the medal was in the bag.

However, it did not have an emotional connection to him, so he decided to confirm it should go to Air Search.

Friends of Air Search president David Hugo said that they were very grateful for the man’s donation and would be looking to get it valued.

He added that the publicity around medal and a recent envelope drop had helped ignite interest in the fundraiser during what had been a difficult year for all charities.
