Alderney hustings well attended

THE six candidates who are up for five seats in the States of Alderney in the island’s general election faced a packed house of 100 electors in the Island Hall this week.

Electors filled the hall for the hustings.

The majority of the candidates will serve a four-year term if elected tomorrow. on Saturday .

They faced questions posed by States of Alderney President William Tate, who acted as moderator.

The governance of the island and air connectivity with Southampton and Guernsey were high on the list of issues raised, as well as green energy policies and increasing contact and reliance on help from the States of Guernsey.

Every candidate mentioned the huge benefits Alderney had experienced from staycation visitors from the Bailiwick and praised the people from Guernsey who have been visiting the island in ever-increasing numbers.
