Ladies’ Pool at La Vallette due for repairs
REPAIRS are set to get under way at the Ladies’ Pool this week after recent wave action damaged the surface.
It was planned that work to improve the surfaces at the Ladies’ Pool at La Vallette be carried out before the Christmas Day polar bear swim.
But it has now been brought forward and will commence next week after recent large waves caused damage to the area. The waves have caused the surface – the edge of the pool and the area around the pool – to crack.
Metal trim on the edge of the pool has also become dislodged by broken granite and subsequently left steel reinforcements exposed.
In order to improve and make safe the pool for all swimmers, concrete repairs will be made to the area.
For the safety of swimmers, the pool was closed from last Thursday.
The pool will remain closed for the duration of these works and is expected to be reopened on Saturday 19 December. The latest round of work comes just 18 months after major repairs were carried out on the southern side of the pool.
The Guernsey Swimming Club organises the annual Polar Bear Swim on Christmas Day at La Vallette Bathing Pools. The club is there from 9.30am until 11am signing certificates. The event is free and is open to everyone of all ages.
