Whitmore Consulting has put in the application to demolish the two workshops at Le Bourg on Rue des Auberts.

The site stands just to the north of Forest Stores, but the development does not involve the protected building close to the main road.

The plan is to create a terrace of four two-bedroom homes, with gardens behind and parking in front.

The new buildings would be close to the Le Bourg protected buildings.

The external walls of the former historic barn and a medieval building are listed, as well as the roadside wall.

Project architect Alex Whitmore said in the planning application that they had taken into account the nearby protected buildings when drawing up the scheme and they would be respected.

The entire site – with the workshops and protected buildings – was put up for sale in August 2019 for £749,000.

Mr Whitmore said the property had been marketed unsuccessfully for 12 months. This was likely to show that there was no demand for the workshops, so allow for the new housing.

The site is within one of the two local centres in Forest, which is where new housing is meant to be built.
