Chaos Festival will return to Pleinmont in summer
CHAOS FESTIVAL will return to Pleinmont headland in June after Covid-19 forced the event’s cancellation last year.
Organiser Chaos Events LBG mostly comprises members of the Greenman Motorcycle Club from Guernsey and Jersey and they are busy booking local music acts and entertainment for the last weekend of June.
Setting up the festival is a year-round task, which usually takes up to 5,000 hours, with 80 local and overseas volunteers pitching in.
‘For those islanders who may not have joined us before, Chaos really is a family-friendly, safe environment where you can hide from reality, kick back, enjoy some live music and recharge against what has to be the best backdrop of any festival,’ said Ozzy Chris, co-organiser and former club president.
‘We are very fortunate to be in our little “bubble” away from the unravelling Covid crisis beyond our borders. It is because of this unique position that we are determined to push ahead and provide something for the good people of the Bailiwick.’
Last year there were between 60 and 80 acts booked, many of which could not come over due to travel restrictions but provisionally agreed to play this year.
‘In an ideal world we would be planning on welcoming UK and international visitors, and most importantly a huge portion of the organising team that live in Jersey and the UK, but we just can’t guarantee that this will be possible, so we must make plans based on continued restricted travel.’
Overseas guests will ‘undoubtedly’ be missed if travel restrictions are still in place.
‘But it is extremely important we ensure the long-term survival of the event and provide the great gig-going people of Guernsey with their summer festival fix.’
Local vendors, businesses and charities are supported by the event, many of which have lost their normal income streams since the pandemic.
At noon on Friday 25 June the gates and bar will open, with existing Chaos 16 tickets rolled on to this year unless requested otherwise.
All are welcome in the daytime, with only over-18s permitted to camp and stay the night.
Under-14s get in free when accompanied by a ticket-holding guardian.
Without overseas helpers the clean-up is expected to take longer, so festival-goers are asked to be off-site by noon on Sunday.
‘We cannot wait to bring everyone together to let off some steam. It has been a ridiculously difficult 12 months and we all deserve to let our hair down.’
