She is now recovering at the GSPCA seal facility and receiving round-the-clock care.

A concerned person contacted the GSPCA on Sunday and staff went out to pick up the pup.

The charity is currently extremely busy, with four seals, more than a hundred hedgehogs and hundreds of other animals.

Geoff George, the head of marine mammals at the GSPCA, said the new pup was found in a bad state.

‘Blaze has joined Titan, Ellie and Joey, who are all doing well.

‘We now have two Guernsey and two Jersey seals in our care.

‘Blaze is only 20kg so half the weight she should be and has a injury to her nose.

‘It’s early days yet but we are caring for her around the clock and doing all we can for her.

‘We have seal pups needing help well into February so with the awful weather we have had there could be others in the coming weeks that need our help so if you see anything please do give us a call at the GSPCA on 01481 257261.’

Blaze and the other pups have big appetites, and Steve Byrne, the GSPCA manager, has put out a plea for help.

‘We now have four seal pups at the shelter and all being so young have a long road before we can even think of releasing them back to the wild.’

If you spot a seal pup that looks fit and healthy and shows no signs of distress, you may consider monitoring it from a safe distance for 24 hours.

A healthy seal pup is said to look like a big, stuffed maggot without a neck. However, a thin pup looks sleek, but not bony, and had a visible neck, like a healthy dog.

The guidance from the GSPCA advises islanders not to attempt touching a stranded seal because they can bite, also do not try to chase it back into the water because they can get washed out to sea by strong currents and lost.
