Chris Jackson’s family usually go all out on decorative lights at Christmas.

So much so that when lockdown was announced there were still some that were yet to be taken down.

Instead of just putting them away in a box, Mr Jackson decided to use this extra time around the house to do something positive for the island.

Hure Mare in the Vale is now lit up with the words ‘stay safe’ as the island adjusts to its second lockdown.

‘In the front of my garden there were already wires up because we normally put Christmas decorations up all the way along the front,’ Mr Jackson said.

‘I just thought this would be a nice way to lift everybody’s spirits.’

His wife Christania is a key worker and was delighted when she came home from work and saw the new addition to the front of the house.

‘I was so proud of him when I saw it,’ she said.

‘I’m a key worker so it was lovely seeing this and I hope it brings others a little faith and belief [that] Guernsey can get through this.’
