Islanders will likely remember how rainbows quickly became the icon of the first lockdown in March last year.

Hand-drawn bursts of colour were put up in windows or painted onto pebbles.

One still arches over an entrance to the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

But for lockdown round two, the woman behind Guernsey With Kids is encouraging islanders to embrace love, by replacing rainbows with hearts.

Antonia Rainbow wanted to spread the message as far as possible so everyone could get involved in another bout of community spirit during this lockdown.

‘We loved spotting rainbows in people’s windows in the first lockdown, and I was talking to my daughter about what we could put in our window this time,’ she said.

‘Instantly she said “love hearts, they make people happy”.’

They hope people will join them by putting a heart in their window for children to spot on their daily exercise allowance and to show a united community.

On the Guernsey With Kids website, there is an option to download hearts for youngsters to colour in.

‘But the beauty of a heart is that, no matter how young you are, you can draw one – so everyone can take part,’ Mrs Rainbow said.
