Latest Covid-19 results show a downward trend
JUST five unknown community seeded Covid-19 cases were found over the weekend.
Data from Friday and Saturday was released over the weekend, indicating a trend that Guernsey might be over the worst of the latest outbreak – with three of those being from unknown sources.
Last night, Public Health director Dr Nicola Brink also announced 15 new cases had been discovered, two of which were from unexplained community transmission – but sounded an encouraging note: ‘Now again as we work through the days, some days we’ll test more and some days we’ll test less.
‘So, I think it’s encouraging that the results overall are showing a downward trend,’ she said.
‘But of course we can’t be complacent. We need to continue to be vigilant. If you are unwell, please do come forward for testing.’
There are currently 377 active cases. While this is an increase of 16 new cases since the total announced on Friday, the number of recoveries was increasing. The figures provided by Dr Brink related to tests done on Sunday as of 8pm, and could change – feeding into overall figures for Sunday due to be released today.
The number of active cases stood at 368 on Saturday, after Friday’s figures were announced.
There were 22 new cases found on Friday and nine new cases reported for Saturday. Of those cases, just three were from unknown community sources. The rest were from contacts of community sources. Over the same period there were 30 recoveries.
There are currently 10 people in hospital, although two of these do not require clinical care.
This news follows confirmation that two staff and two residents from a St Saviour’s care home tested positive on Friday.
A press conference will be taking place at 1pm today online. However, any changes to the current lockdown are not expected to be announced until Wednesday
