But having signed a contract to sing her own ‘very now’ Toilers of the Sea composition, she hopes it will be the first of many of her musical compositions to be widely recognised in the years ahead.

After signing a contract to provide the vocal to the big finale scene of the planned locally shot movie, the home-educated 14-year-old with a passion for music, is not stopping there.

While her raw vocal track of the song chosen for the now very likely film production of the famous Victor Hugo novel is worked on by the noted music producer John Cameron, the St Sampson’s-based youngster is already working on another song on her home piano.

Mother Chantelle explained how her home-schooled daughter has long been fascinated by Victor Hugo.

‘At 13 she entered a Guernsey Arts Foundation Victor Hugo competition to design an octopus to represent the one in the Toilers of the Sea story,’ said Mrs Lovering who has encouraged her daughter all the way as she pursues her love for the arts.

‘Elle has always sung – she wrote her first song at eight. Both my children are very musical.

‘At eight or nine she wrote “This is My Time to Shine” about home schooling and feeling free.

‘She attends the School of Popular Music and works closely with Casey-Joe Rumens.

‘Casey has taught her to write properly and been an amazing asset,’ she added.

As for her Toilers of the Sea composition, mother and daughter took to visiting island spots for inspiration.

‘This particular song is about unrequited love and struck a chord with her, so we visited the places we thought Gilliatt, the hero, would have visited.

‘There is a gravelly tone to her voice,’ added Mrs Lovering who admits they were surprised to get the call from film producers David Shanks and Joy Mullins.

‘We heard that the Shanks’s were potentially doing the movie and I sent them a little snippet of Elle’s song.

‘A year later I got a random phone call from David Shanks who had listened to it and was blown away by the song.

‘He said “our music producer, John Cameron, wants to speak to you and we want Elle to sing it in the film”.’

Subsequently, on a recent trip to the island, the husband and wife production team visited the Loverings and confirmed that they wanted Elle to sing the big finale scene and wanted a contract signed.

‘Hopefully, this will be an opportunity to springboard herself. She doesn’t want fame but wants to continue to write her music.’
