Brand new car is top prize in Les Bourgs Hospice lottery
TICKETS are now on sale for the first Friends of Les Bourgs Hospice car lottery.

First prize is a brand new Hyundai i10 which can be upgraded or specified to the winner’s desire, followed by a half-price e-bike, a trolley dash, and a scenic flight for two around the island.
Special events had been planned throughout the year to mark the hospice’s 30th anniversary.
‘Barras Car Centre have been absolutely phenomenal, we came in October wanting an i30 for our 30th year but saw the i10 and were sold on it,’ said Friends committee chairwoman Trish De Carteret.
‘Barras have kept it for us since October and have a list of people interested in buying tickets. Whoever wins the car will get a completely new car and can negotiate an upgrade of model or colour etc.
‘Ian Brown has always been a big supporter of the hospice and is offering an e-bike at half price. Channel Island Co-Operative Society have sponsored a trolley dash and the Aero Club are offering a scenic flight for those desperate to get off the island – even for 10 minutes.’
Committee member Chris Cuss has gained permission to park a bright blue Les Bourgs-branded i10 around the island as a mobile ticket sales point, so long as no roads are blocked.
‘Without Chris it never would have happened. We have until 9 October to sell tickets, with a few points of sale.’
Tickets sales are planned at Les Bourgs charity shop and various events, such as the Aero Club’s Wings & Wheels in May, the Seafront Sundays and shows, which may still go ahead.

‘Currently if people want to buy tickets they can contact myself on trishandnick@cwgsy.net or Chris on chris.cuss@hotmail.com and we will arrange this. We are not planning on online sales at this point, but if we continue with this lockdown for longer than we hope we will have to consider this.’
To officially launch the lottery, a service was due to be held on Sunday.
‘There have been some updates as we were unable to launch it at the service sadly, but Chris will, after lockdown, still be parking the i10 in island hotspots as and when the situation allows, but clearly we do not know when that will be,’ Ms De Carteret said.
Initially another £1m. lottery was planned, but after a tough year this lottery was chosen instead.
‘This is the first car lottery we’ve ever done, so we’ll see how it goes and fingers crossed it will all go well.’
The more tickets which can be sold, the better, Ms De Carteret said, given the Hospice relies 100% on donations.
‘And 100% of the profits from ticket sales will be going back to the hospice. Thank you to all of our sponsors for their generosity - we couldn’t do it without you too.’
Barras Car Centre managing director Martyn Torode said: ‘We are delighted to be associated with such a good project. As with most of the island, we are in awe of all that Les Bourgs does for the island.’
Tickets are £25 each and must be bought by a single person. Name and phone number must be provided.
