‘Don’t call us, we will give you a new date for second dose’
ISLANDERS with an appointment for their second dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine are being advised not to contact the vaccine team.
Last week it was decided that, based on World Health Organization advice, the gap between the first and second doses would be extended from six to 10 weeks.
Some islanders already had appointments for their second jab, which now need to be moved.
‘There is no need for you to contact us to rebook your appointment,’ a States of Guernsey spokesman said.
‘We will reschedule your appointment for you and send you a letter to notify you of the new date and time. So please sit tight and wait for your letter.’
Increasing the gap between doses of AstraZeneca from six to 10 weeks has been proven to give a higher level of protection against infection.
Those who have already had their second dose at the existing six-week interval should remain confident that they will still go on to develop a high level of protection.
A longer gap has just been proven to create an even greater level of protection.
