The batteries were taken from Carrus Auto Parts at Landes du Marche between about 3pm on Friday and the same time the following day.
Carrus director Jeremy Marquis said the batteries were being kept outside the premises prior to being put into a large container for collection and recycling.
‘They have a scrap value, depending on the weight,’ he said. ‘Some of them were quite heavy but they would average about £3 a unit.’
So as well as not being easy items to steal, the thieves would make only about £60 if they managed to sell them.
But Mr Marquis said he has warned all likely purchasers of the batteries about the theft, so anyone selling old batteries is going to fall under suspicion.
He has also warned other garages to make sure any used batteries are kept indoors from now on.
Guernsey Police would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious at the time, as well as from anyone who might have a dashcam or CCTV of the area.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Guernsey Police on 725111 quoting OC21*1031, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
