‘People must think I’m mad,’ said Clint Downes, who has been searching for missing lovebirds George and Dory in a blue dressing gown with which they are familiar.

Islanders are asked to keep their eyes and ears peeled for their tropical coloured feathers and distinctive chirps.

Aged around one year, this is their first time out in the wild.

‘They were allowed to fly freely round the house but escaped when I got in with the shopping,’ said owner Clint Downes.

Usually they are very vocal with huge personalities.

Mr Downes said home has been very quiet without George and Dory there.

They responded to calls at first, but have not quite made it back home.

George and Dory have the run of Clint Downes' house at the Foulon from where they escaped

‘I think they got disorientated with the strong winds we had because they stayed around home for a couple of days.’

While out searching Mr Downes has been wearing their favourite blue dressing gown – they often crawled into the hood to play tug-of-war with his jewellery – in the hope they will recognise it.

‘People must think I’m mad.’

As social animals, lovebirds are expected to recognise their owners as their ‘flock’ and be wary of other humans.

‘I was talking to a lady who owns the parent birds and she said they would always try and escape, but there’s also someone else who lets there’s out for exercise.’

Their cage has been left outside with some food, with doors and windows left open so they can come home.

Otherwise Mr Downes has been listening out for them while out of the house and posting on social media to try to track George and Dory down.

n If anybody sees or hears the lovebirds, they are asked to call Mr Downes on 07781 441224.
