It was a multi-service response to the incident which happened at about 3.45pm, involving the police, St John Ambulance, the Fire & Rescue Service and the Guernsey Coastguard.

A paramedic and incident officer were on scene at the car park at Icart and traffic was being diverted away from the area.

Cliff paths were temporarily closed while crews were working, but re-opened at about 4.45pm.

It was a combined effort by two RNLI lifeboats to rescue the youth.

The relief all-weather boat, Daniel L. Gibson, had arrived in the island only earlier in the day to stand in for the Spirit of Guernsey, which is heading to the UK for an overhaul.

The rescue close to the cliffs was carried out by the volunteer crew in the inshore lifeboat, Elizabeth and Margaret Mulligan.

After being successfully picked up by the crew of the inshore lifeboat, the casualty was taken to the harbour for transfer to the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

At the time of rescue, the 19-year-old was reportedly not in a critical condition.
