CONTACT details for indoor gatherings of more than 100 people should be recorded, as Guernsey moves in stage three of the island’s exit from lockdown on Monday.

Most restrictions will fall away from next week, as life largely returns to normal.

So far there have been no new cases of Covid-19 diagnosed for 20 days.

But Civil Contingencies Authority has decided that organisers of large gatherings should follow special guidance.

This includes keeping indoor spaces well ventilated and providing ways to keep hands clean.

An attendance record should also be taken.

These guidelines will cover events such as sporting competitions, church gatherings, pubs and night clubs.

There will be no formal registration system, but the CCA is asking the community to work together and keep islanders safe by adhering to the guidance.

These guidelines are likely to remain in place until at least the end of April.

The recommendations do not apply to outdoor events, however organisers of large outdoor events may also want to consider the public health guidance regarding hygiene measures to mitigate against any Covid-19 related risks.

Civil Contingencies Authority chairman Peter Ferbrache said the CCA had considered what was appropriate and proportionate for large gatherings.

‘We have decided that providing this guidance is the right approach,’ he said.

‘We’ve also aimed the guidance principally at large indoor events and we’ve looked to include pubs and nightclubs too.

‘This reflects the kinds of places and situations where the virus is more likely to spread.

‘Encouragingly, we’re aware that many pub and nightclub businesses are already putting in place what they need to properly record attendees; some are even applying technology such as dedicated apps to do this, so the signs are that industry is already taking the right precautions.’

Fusion will be opening its doors on Monday night.

Owner Alex Lock said it was hard to anticipate what the initial demand would be.

‘It will be nice to be back to a form of normal,’ he said.

‘I’m not sure how it will be on Monday – whether it will be really busy or whether people will be waiting for the weekend.

‘We are expecting next Friday and Saturday to be very busy.’

He said the club was ready to cope with any guidance issued by the States and would be taking people’s contact details in case there was a need to contact trace.
