The work is part of the redevelopment project which aims to breathe new life into the area to make it accessible to the whole community and for groups to enjoy activities there.

Earlier this month, a large crane removed heavy slabs of concrete from a section of the terrace floor and roof of the old changing rooms.

Helen Bonner-Morgan, community lead for Vive La Vallette, the charity dedicated to renovating the area, said: ‘We’ve now reached a point where the entire building has been stripped back to its bare bones.’

Work began at the beginning of January and although there was a short delay due to lockdown, she said the delay would not have much of an impact on the timescale of the development.

The £1.5m. project includes a new cafe, community function space and changing rooms and it is set to be completed by spring 2022. Well over half the budget has already been raised by the charity.

‘Work is being done to set out the site and the diggers are there now excavating and finding out how much rock there is to get through.’

That will help to determine exactly how the new build will sit.

While this work is ongoing, all three of the bathing pools are still open to the public.
