Metal detectorist Matthew Kneebone came across the ring on Grandes Rocques beach.

While he had handed it in to the police, no one had come forward to claim it and, after a month, they had handed it back to him.

‘I’d still like to find its owner as it looks specially made for someone, someone who may have thought they had lost it forever,’ he said.

‘I’d like to get it back to them.’

The ring is gold, has sea pearls around its edge and a Mexican fire opal inside.

‘It’s a beautiful colour,’ added Mr Kneebone.

‘I took it to Ray & Scott, where they told me about the stone and sea pearls.

‘While I find ring pulls from coke cans all the time, this is an actual ring that looks like it would mean something to someone – I hope someone comes forward.’
