Angled parking put to the test at La Vallette
A NEW angled parking layout is being trialled by La Vallette bathing pools to increase parking provision.
However, it does mean there will be only a single lane of traffic past the parking between the bathing pools and the former Aquarium.
Traffic & Highway Services brought in the scheme after feedback from bathing pool users. The new layout – which used to be parallel parking – has created four additional spaces. T&HS said that while there would only be single-file traffic past the parking, there was good visibility and vehicles would be able to pull in to let other drivers pass.
Traffic & Highway Services director Karl Guille said they were conscious of how popular the bathing pools were for recreational activity all year round.
‘We want to make the very best use of the available space in the area and we really hope that these changes to the parking will be of benefit to regular users,’ he said.
Charity Vive La Vallette has been organising the redevelopment of the La Vallette kiosk.
Helen Bonner-Morgan from the charity said they were delighted that T&HS had added the extra spaces.
‘Sea swimming provides huge benefits to people’s physical and mental health and wellbeing so it is great to see improvements to parking provision for anyone unable to access the facilities through active travel methods or public transport,’ she said.
‘We would like to thank those involved for listening to the public’s concerns about short-term parking at La Vallette and we look forward to working with the States when seeking sensible solutions, as they arise, during this long-term, community-focused project.’
At this stage, the changes have been made on a trial basis in order to monitor the effectiveness of the new parking layout and seek feedback from people who access the area by car.
Drivers are asked to be conscious of the building work on the kiosk which is currently taking place.
