Instead of the usual Red Nose Day activities, which could not go ahead in stage two of lockdown,

assistant head teacher Tracy Hubert planned a ‘Big Easter Drop’.

Students in Years 7 to 11 were invited to donate an Easter egg to support the local community and make people smile.

Those who did were entered into the school’s Easter year group raffle.

‘I aimed to collect 100 eggs and ended up with 193,’ Ms Hubert said.

‘Students have loved it.

‘At the time we planned it we were still in stage two, so parents could not go to the shop as easily to get costumes or anything, and we could not have year groups together. So I thought if we couldn’t do that, we could do this instead.’

Stage three coming along helped give more time and freedom to shop for eggs.

One student brought in seven eggs and many others donated large ones.

‘This is such precious learning, to do things for others, and will carry on for months to come.’

After a successful and inspiring first run it is the start of a really good thing, Ms Hubert said.

‘Staff have agreed that we want to do more for the welfare service. Something so simple can be so rewarding.’

Sue Le Friec, GWS welfare worker, said: ‘Thank you to Beaucamps for what you’ve done, this has been a partnership which has worked well for both of us.

‘Thankfully there are a lot of generous people on the island who are always happy to help. We would ask if there is anybody who needs some help from us to ask for it.

‘We have been back open for a week and throughout lockdown were really busy.

‘But we are open again now if anybody would like to pop in to see us.’
