The event was organised by local musician Kiya Ashton. It started as an online affair in the first lockdown and quickly developed into a weekend at St James in January, but after a successful first day the second wave hit and all big gatherings were cancelled.

That day saw a few of the artists still performing online.

However, on Saturday, from midday to midnight, they were able to do a complete re-run of what would have gone down with just a few line-up shifts.

Miss Ashton was pleased to finally get everyone back in St James to experience some free live music.

‘The day has been going great and we’ve seen some really good artists,’ she said.

‘Everybody has been excited to get back to live gigging and play to a crowd, even though we were able to do it online in January, it’s not the same and it really does feel really good to be able to do this again after a tough lockdown.’

Opening up the day was Tanji, joined on stage by Alex Sarchet on guitar.

‘It went great, really good crowd and lots of good vibes,’ said Mr Sarchet.

‘I’ve stayed throughout as it’s really good to support your fellow artists and really enjoy the variety of acts on offer.

‘It’s really good for building up your reputation and talking to other talented people.

‘St James is a great place and there’s no reason not to come down, have a little session and then stick around for more great music.’

Also showcasing their work were solo artists such as Miss Ashton, Mick Le Huray and Ramblin’ Nick Mann playing folk, acoustic rock and pop, with some bands taking to the stage by the end of the night, such as Mike Meinke Band, to get people up on their feet.

There were even some busking sessions outside Boots to serenade people on their way up to St James with the help of the Guernsey Arts Commission.

Charlie Buchanan came in with her family to check out the performers.

‘We’ve only just arrived but are looking forward to hearing some music,’ she said.

‘It’s good to show your support, so that’s what we’re here for.’

Guernsey Gigs live-streamed the entire show on their Facebook page, where it can still be found for those who missed it.
