Good causes helped by first haircut
AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD who had never had her hair cut before saw her foot-long bunches fall around her.
Beatrix Buchanan had her first proper haircut for charity, donating her brown locks to the Little Princess Trust.
Although she felt a bit nervous beforehand, she had a huge smile on her face when the hairdresser began snipping.
‘I’m going to have it cut into a 1920s style,’ she said. ‘We watch Strictly Come Dancing as a family and I just love that style of a short flapper’s bob.’
One of her close friends at school also has a cropped haircut, which Beatrix said looks really cool.
Her hair was cut and styled by Tracey Gilheany who has been the Buchanan family’s hairdresser since Beatrix was a baby.
When asked why she decided to ditch the long locks and donate them to charity, Beatrix said she wanted to do something for people who have strong medicine and lose their hair.
‘I have also been raising money for another charity, Care International for children in Yemen.
‘I saw some videos about children in Yemen and wanted to do something to help.’
Initially she hoped to raise £200, but the generosity of her friends, family and school meant she has smashed that target by more than £1,000.
Her primary school, Notre Dame, held a mufti day on the day the hairdresser was coming round and raised £360.
‘I’m excited to go into school for the first time with short hair,’ she said. ‘I’m sure my friends will love it.’
