Yesterday’s wintry April shower was the first since 2013
UNTIL yesterday, wintry showers had not been reported in April since 2013.
The expectation had been for a cold Easter bank holiday weekend and freezing winds eventually brought ground frost and isolated wintry showers.
By comparison, last year’s Easter weekend was the hottest on record.
‘Easter this year was forecast to be relatively cool, especially by Easter Monday,’ the Guernsey Met Office duty observer said.
A few light snow and hail showers were seen yesterday morning in between gusty sunny spells.
‘Easter weekend 2018 was cooler and the coolest Easter weekend was in 2013. In contrast, the warmest Easter weekend was last year.
‘The last time we reported snow in April was in 2013.’
Further winter showers were expected later in the day.
‘Thereafter, dry with temperatures recovering a little by Thursday. Rain is expected Friday afternoon with a return to cooler conditions for the weekend.’
