Guernsey Police confirmed it was brought up by a fisherman on 30 March.

‘It was reported and taken to the mortuary,’ a spokesman said.

‘A pathologist has since taken samples, and, if they are eligible, they will be sent off for DNA testing – this process is expected to take some time. The foot was an adult’s, and had clearly been underwater for some time.'

No details about skin colour, shoe size or whether any footwear was still on the limb have been released.

Guernsey Police would also not disclose where in local waters the foot was recovered.

Body parts from burials at sea have washed up in Guernsey in the past.
