Details of the route have just been published. It will take in all 10 parishes and aims to avoid large crowds gathering in one spot.

Military vehicles and motorbikes are expected to take part from the Guernsey Military Vehicle Group along with a showing by the Guernsey Old Car Club.

Parts of the cavalcade will also be live streamed on social media.

Organisers have shared approximate timings for the day and the route will follow the majority of the island’s coast roads at a slow pace, beginning at 2pm in Torteval.

The cavalcade will travel onwards to St Andrew’s via St Saviour’s, into Castel through Vazon and Cobo and onwards to Vale Church.

The procession can then be seen passing through the Bridge, St Peter Port and St Martin’s before it moves through Forest, finishing at the Longfrie.

Liberation Day Cavalcade director Jeff Vidamour said the route aimed to cover as much of the island as possible.

‘As larger celebrations could not happen this year, we wanted to find a way to visit as many islanders as possible while respecting Public Health’s advice.

‘We are very excited to put on a round-the-island cavalcade.

‘It’s a focal point of Liberation Day and we are pleased we have the opportunity to do it again this year.’

Education, Sport & Culture member Deputy Sue Aldwell said the committee would encourage everyone to come out and watch from a spot on the route, wave flags and take pictures.

‘Keep an eye out for a variety of vehicles including a Dodge ambulance, a Daimler Dingo armoured car and a Dodge weapons carrier,’ she said.

JT is supporting this year’s cavalcade.

Deputy managing director Tamara O’Brien said the company was pleased to support the unique event.

‘It’s important to us to be part of community events that not only bring people together but inspire change and innovation.’
