Motorcyclist who died in road accident just 18, say police
A MOTORCYCLIST who died following a collision with a bus on Rectory Hill on Monday evening was 18, Guernsey Police has confirmed.
The force has not yet identified publicly the deceased, Roads Policing Inspector Tom Marshall told a press briefing yesterday.
‘Specialist family liaison officers have been working with the family of the man since the incident and are doing what they can to support them,’ he said.
The call to the emergency services about the crash was received at 5.48pm on Monday.
Police officers, the Fire & Rescue Service and St John Emergency Ambulance responded.
Nobody else was injured in the collision.
The Joint Emergency Services Control Centre initially dispatched a double-crewed paramedic ambulance, but given the seriousness of the incident a second ambulance was then requested and an off-duty paramedic, who was in the area at the time, attended to provide further assistance.
An incident officer was also deployed to help provide support and coordination for the ambulance operation.
A St John spokesman said medical crews provided immediate care at the scene before the casualty was transferred to the hospital’s Emergency Department.
‘One other patient was assessed by clinicians at the scene, but did not require further treatment or transfer to hospital at that time,’ they said.
‘Colleagues from Guernsey Fire & Rescue were also involved in assisting the ambulance crews with initial treatment and Civil Protection volunteers helped provide scene management.’
The full length of the road was closed to traffic for more than four hours and the bus was towed from the scene at about 10pm. Other nearby vehicles were recovered as part of the investigation.
. Police are still investigating the cause of the collision and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed or heard it. Anyone with information is asked to call 222222 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
